Earth to get filled with water in 2 billion years

According to study results, it is found that the earth would again turn a world of water. The land area on the upper surface of earth will get filled with water, say researchers. In a research report named Nature Geoscience, it is stated that the thickness of outer layer of earth is getting decreased which will lead the earth to turn a land of water in another 2 billion years. About one billion years ago, the thickness of outer layer of earth reached its peak of up to 40 km. After this, the thickness is continuously decreasing.
It is to be remembered that the earth got all its land surface out of the water just before 2.5 billion years, before the evolution or organisms on the planet. However, due to rupturing of top layer of the planet, the planet is likely to get immersed in water, add researchers.
