A shop selling clothes items made by the prisoners in the Puzhal jail was opened yesterday (Thursday, 15th July) in the jail complex. Training on textile design was given to 2 sections of prisoners in Puzhal jail complex. 70 persons from the 1st section and 50 persons from the 2nd section are being trained.
Training is given for designing and making shirts, pants, trousers, T-shirts, and children’s cloth items. Trained prisoners have started making cloth items. These shirts have been brought out to the shop in the prison complex for sales. This new shop was inaugurated yesterday by Puzhal Jail Department Vice-president Rajendran .
The cloth items are sold at the shop at Rs.350/- per piece. Further, the prisoners have been trained to undertake pressing/ironing of cloths as well. Ironing charge is Rs. 3/- per item of cloth.
Mr. Rajendran informed that various cloth items including pants for elders, etc will be put up for sales shortly. Local senior prison officials participated in the event.
