When there is a fall in price of fuel, the benefit is seldom passed to the customers unlike when the prices raise. Transportation of the public is largely influenced by the increase in price of petrol products.
Following the standardization of auto rickshaw fares by the state government, customers are charged high by auto driver. While most of the autos are aided by petrol, few section of them use liquefied petroleum gas as its fuel which costs half that of petrol. However, there is no reduction in rate while customers are charged.
There is a considerable reduction in rate of LPG in the recent times which stands at Rs 40.37 per litre. Though it reached a peak of Rs 64 per litre earlier, now the price has come greatly down to Rs 35.33 per litre in February this year.
Compared to petrol, LPG is available at cheaper rate. And autos that use LPG provide a mileage of 17 kilometre per litre which is 25 km in case of petrol driven autos, say drivers and dealers of auto rickshaw.
