20 additional water filling centres opened by Metro Water

Now there is 20% dearth of water in Chennai. Various efforts are being made to manage this.
Water to Chennai is being supplied from 73 water filling centres. Now additional 20 centres have been opened. the centres which were working from 6 AM to 5 PM, is now working till 10 PM.
Metrowater fact file
- Metrowater supplies 38-40 million litres a day of water through tankers.
- Tankers that transport water are of different capacities - 6 kl, 9 kl and 16 kl
- At present, Chennai is supplied with 580 mld of water
- The main sources of water are Veeranam tank in Cuddalore district, desalination plants in Minjur and Nemmeli, reservoirs in Red Hills and Chembarambakkam and Tiruvallur agricultural wells
- Each of the 530 lorries plies nearly 10 trips every day as against six trips earlier
- The number of trips has increased from 3,500 trips to 4,900 trips daily. Of this, 1,900 trips are given for payment alone.
