Security beefed up on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to Chennai

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit the city on August 7 to attend a function of the Union Textile Ministry, the Chennai police are gearing up to provide three-tier security. Security has been stepped in the city and also in the neighboring districts. 
 
The PM is scheduled to touchdown at 9.50 am on August 7, 2015 and will head straight to the event venue at the University of Madras where he will attend the launch cum declaration of the first Natinoal Handloom Day to coincide with the Swadeshi Andolan that was launched in 1905. The event is scheduled to begin at 11 am.
 
Police sources said more than 2,500 police personnel from the city will be involved in bandobust in addition to the strength that would be drawn from the Armed Reserve and Tamil Nadu Special Police for crowd control and traffic regulation.
