A 15 percent slash in total headcount will be made by handset maker HTC. This is a move that will have its impact on about 2000 jobs following the biggest ever loss faced by Taiwanese firm during the second quarter this year.
While HTC saw a profit of USD 2.26 billion during the second quarter last year, the same has posted a loss of about 8.0 billion Taiwanese Dollars (USD 252.7 million) during the same quarter this year. This realignment made in HTC is believed to fetch the company with significant profitable growth and an agile operating model. An overall reduction of operating expenditure by 35 percent is expected with this realignment which will also include streamlining of the operations. This has induced a headcount slash by 15 percent.
This realignment is also inclusive of introduction of new business units for creating more focus and profit in prominent areas such as virtual reality, premium smartphones, lifestyle products, to name a few. Speaking about this, the Chairperson and CEO of HTC, Wang said expanding their firm beyond smartphones will require a flexible and dynamic organization that can back the multinational manufacturer in taking exciting opportunities that can trigger them to get connected to lifestyle space. The perfect level of focus, required resources and right persons with expertise will be ensured with this new model of business, she added.
