Prices of garlic & Bengal-gram rise up

As the quantity of arrival of Bengal-gram and garlic is reduced, their prices have rise up.

At the same time, the price of Basmati Rica has fallen steeply.

The pulses including Bengal-gram are brought from the states of Maharashtra, Andhra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat to Tamil Nadu.

The harvest has been affected by excessive year this year. This is the reason for reduced quantity reaching Tamil Nadu. This has led to increase in price. Last week, Bengal-gram was sold at Rs. 138/- per kg. Now it is sold at Rs. 140/- per kg (in loose) and Rs. 150/- (in packets).

2nd quality Bengal-gram is sold at Rs. 105/- to Rs. 125/- per kg.

Bengal-gram from Tanzania is sold at Rs. 95/- to Rs. 115/- per kg.

Black-gram is sold at Rs. 115/- per kg from Rs. 95/- per kg (in loose) and at Rs. 135/- per kg (in packets). Burma black-gram is sold at a higher price of Rs. 100/- to Rs. 115/- per kg.

As increased quantity of split-gram has arrived from Haryana and Delhi, its price has reduced from Rs. 75/- per kg to Rs. 65/- per kg. 2nd quality split-gram is sold at reduction from Rs.65/- per kg to Rs. 60/- per kg. Green-gram is sold at reduction from Rs.120/- per kg to Rs. 110/- per kg.2nd quality green-gram is sold at reduction from Rs. 110/- per kg to Rs. 100/- per kg.

The price of Basmati rice has also fallen steeply due to good harvest in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh and with reduced exports to Arabian Countries. Basmati rice is sold at reduced price from Rs. 140/- to Rs. 90/- per kg. 2nd quality Basmati rice is sold at Rs. 70 from Rs. 100/- per kg. 3rd quality Basmati rice is sold at a reduction from Rs. 70/- to Rs. 40/- per kg.

Rupali rice is sold at a reduced price from 30/- to Rs. 28/- per kg.Deluxe Wonder Ponni rice is sold at Rs. 34/- from Rs. 36/- per kg. Bapatla (old) rice is sold at Rs. 42/- from Rs. 44/- per kg.

White Ponni rice is sold at Rs. 44/- from Rs. 48/- per kg. White Ponni Rice (old) is sold at Rs. 52/- from Rs. 54/-per kg. Idly rice is sold at Rs. 28/- from Rs. 32/- per kg.

Pongal raw rice is sold at Rs. 30/- from Rs. 34/- per kg.

Mountain-garlic is brought from Ooty in Tamil Nadu and China for sales. Since the arrival quantity is reduced, mountain-garlic is sold at a higher price of Rs. 160/- from Rs. 130/- per kg. Country or rural-grown garlic is sold at Rs. 130/- per kg from Rs. 90/- per kg.

As sugar mills are being closed, sugar price has gone up from Rs. 26/- to Rs. 30/- per kg.

As the economy is in a down-trend in USA, Palm-oil price has reduced from Rs. 49/- from Rs. 55/- per kg. Sunflower oil has reduced from Rs. 84/- to Rs. 80/- per kg. 2nd quality sunflower oil is sold at Rs. 60/- from Rs. 74/- per kg.

Agmark Gingely oil price has reduced from Rs. 220/- to Rs. 10/- per kg. Erode Kangeyam gingely oil price has reduced from Rs. 180/- to Rs. 150/- per kg.

Coconut oil (2nd quality) price has reduced from Rs. 180/- to Rs. 15/- per kg. Vansapati price has reduced from Rs. 90/- to Rs. 80/- per kg. Gingely oil use for lighting lamps is sold at Rs. 75/- from Rs. 100/- p per kg.

Tamil Nadu Grocery Merchants Association President Mr. S P Sorupan informed that the price of Vathal (dried chillies) has gone from Rs. 100/- to Rs. 120/- per kg. 2nd quality vathal is sold at Rs. 100/- from Rs. 80/- per kg. Long vathal is sold at Rs. 110/- from Rs. 90/- per kg. Coriander is sold at Rs. 140/- per kg from Rs. 110/- per kg.
