Kerala boys heart for a girl from Kazakhstan

The heart of school student Adith Paulson, an Irinjalakuda native who was declared brain dead by doctors at Aster Medcity in Kochi on Tuesday, was transplanted to 10-year-old Dilnas Ishan from Kazakhstan who has been undergoing treatment at Fortis Malar Hospital in Chennai.
 
The surgery, led by Fortis Malar Hospital in-charge Dr K.R. Balakrishnan, was completed by 5.45 pm. The heart harvested from the operation was taken to Nedumbassery in a special ambulance with the the help of police then.
 
The medical team reached the airport at 6 pm and a charted flight carried the heart to Chennai at 6.30 pm.
 
At 8.13, the flight landed at Chennai airport and at 8.23, the team reached the hospital in Adyar. The transplant  surgery began at 8.30 pm.
 
The surgery went well and she is doing fine now, said Dr. Balakrishnan, adding that the ischemic time of the heart (time spent outside the body) was about three hours and 45 minutes.
