According to a study published in PLOS Medicine, antidepressants could actually do the opposite of calming a person down. The study was conducted by researchers at the Oxford University.

The scientists have claimed that both men and women, who are in their late teen and early 20s and are on SSRI drugs, have almost a 50% chance of getting convicted for charges that range from assault to murder. SSRI drugs include prescribed and over the counter brands such as Prozac, Seroxat, Lustral, Cipralex and Cipramil. All of these drugs have a disclaimer on their label that says that one of the side effects may be suicidal thoughts, especially in young people.

A psychiatrist from the Oxford University studied more than 800,000 Swedes. They were all 15 years and older and had been prescribed SSRI drugs. He studied these subjects when they were on the pill and also when they were off. Talking about his experiment, he said, ‘People who were aged between 15 and 24 had a 43 per cent higher risk of committing a violent crime when medicating compared to when not medicating.’
