Central Minister for Telecommunication Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad informed that an infrastructure has been set up to lay fibre-optic cables over a distance of 90000 km to link 68000 villages.
The minister informed that these activities are under progress under the project to provide high-speed internet facility to 2.5 Lakh villages.
These activities commenced 14 months ago. The minister informed that fibre-optic cables were laid for a distance of 2000 km only by the previous government.
The minister added that the laying of the fibre-optic cables covering 2.5 Lakh villages would be completed by next year.
