Birth Anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday falls on October 15th. The people’s president passed away while addressing students in Shillong in July this year. 

Dr. Kalam served as President of India from 2002 till 2007. He was a scientist, a thinker, a philosopher and a teacher. In his honor, the United Nations declared his birthday ‘World Students Day’ in 2010, for his 79th birthday. Since then, October 15 has been observed by students in India and across the world. 

Dr. Kalam was given the Padma Bhushan in 1981 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 for his work with the DRDO and the ISRO. He also holds the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest honor for a civilian. 

Some of his well known books are ‘Wings of Fire’, ‘India 2020 - A Vision for the New Millennium’, ‘My Journey’ and ‘Ignited Minds - unleashing the power within India’.
