Director of projects, R Ramanathan CMRL has mentioned that the metro rail underground stretch will be opened to public in the year 2017.

He while participating in a function which was held at Guru Sri Shanthi Vijay Jain Women College said, The metro rail project is very challenging. Since there are solid rocks in the underground, it is very difficult to build the underground stretch. But due to technology it is was easy to manage the works. Metro Rail transportation is fully computerized. All are operated using software. Hence even after the tracks are laid we will have to run trial trains for at least 3 to 4 months. The underground stretch between Koyambedu and Egmore is completely over. Works connected with the construction of underground stations are going on in top gear. Now the work connected with the underground stretch between Egmore and Chennai Central has commenced. Metro Rail works between Washermanpet and Tiruvottiyur will commence soon. Survey for the second phase of metro rail has also been completed. In future, youngsters should use more of these transport modes. Then only the traffic congestion will become less. Pollution will also come down drastically.

College principal M K Malathi and others participated in this function.
