The Vedanthangal birds sanctuary is located at Kanchipuram district, Madhurandhagam. Every year, the season for these birds begin during the month of November. Birds from across the world including Japan, Australia, Nigeria, America, etc will throng in to the sanctuary for reproduction. They form a nest in the branches of trees here and lay eggs and hatch chicks. Once done with these, they take their chicks and fly back to their own place.
The sanctuary will be open for tourists and visitors during November every year. Similarly, the sanctuary was opened on 27th of November last year. Due to failure of monsoon rain in lakes at this sanctuary, there were lesser number of birds here. This largely disappointed all tourists last year. Following this, these lakes are being revamped now. However, due to lack of enough water, all the trees in the sanctuary have dried out.
Now, owing to heavy rain in areas around the Vedandhangal sanctuary, there is good inflow of water in these lakes and the water level is getting largely increased. This has given rise to more number of birds as well.
