Due to heavy and continuous rains, apart from flooding, sewage water has also entered several houses in Korattur. One of the resident who stays in Ellaiamman Nagar in Korattur, wading through knee-deep sewage in his room, said it has become impossible to stay in his house due to the stench.
People now buy food from restaurants because their kitchens are filled with sewage. Areas nearby, like Balaji Nagar Sarada Nagar, Vivekanada Nagar and Kavya Nagar are also filled with sewage.
The reason for this is the corporation is yet to complete its JNNURM-funded storm water drain project, which started in 2009, in core city areas even after the civic body extended its deadline several times.
It has also cut back on the Rs 706 crore project from a total of 533.32km of storm water drains to 335km.
