Heavy rains to continue on Monday, schools and colleges remain closed

Chennai`s District Collector has said that educational institutions across the city will remain closed on Monday. The forecast for the next two days shows that there will be heavy showers. According to an official from the Regional Meteorological Dept., A low pressure area that has developed on the Bay of Bengal has not intensified into a depression. It could form a depression on Monday . But it may not intensify.
Sunday saw rain throughout Sunday. The maximum temperature recorded was 25.3 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 24 degrees Celsius. The Nungambakkam weather station recorded 12.4 cm of rainfall and the Meenambakkam recorded 16.7 cm, all in just 12 hours from morning to night. During the same time, Taramani recorded 14 cm, Ennore 14.4 cm, Madhavaram 15.2cm, Poonamallee 12.1cm, Kelambakkam 21.6cm, Avadi 12.7cm and Anna University 12.6cm. The city`s four reservoirs showed storage of 5,088 million cubic feet, almost 50% of their capacity.
According to experts, the weather is likely to continue this way for the next 48 hours. Strong squall winds reaching gusting up to 60kmph would prevail over the city and rest of north Tamil Nadu for the next 48 hours. The low pressure area which has developed could intensify into a depression as low wind shear is prevailing, they say.
