One of highest records of rainstorms year

November 16 saw the one of the highest recorded rainfall on a single day in Chennai. Records show that the city received 24.6 cm of rain in the 24 hours between Nov. 15 and 16. The highest the city has received on a single day in recent history is on October 27, 2005 of 27.3 cm. The highest ever received by Chennai, then Madras, was on October 21, 1846 of a whopping 52 cm. 

The city has received 76.2 cm of rain in just 17 days. The entire northeast monsoon period is between October and December, and the average rainfall during this period is 85 cm. According to experts, this year is a repeat of November 1985. On November 12, 1985, we received 24.8cm of rain, and 32.9cm the very next day. Around 98cm of rainfall was received in just 12 days, they say.
