The state of Tamil Nadu has been receiving heavy rain showers since 28th of last month. Districts including Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur, and Chennai city have got completely flooded and water stagnant because of continual flow of rain between 9th and 15th of November.

It is to be remembered that Chennai has received heavy rainfall unlike the condition in the past four decades. Houses in areas including Anna Nagar, Villivakkam, Purasavakkam, Chetpet, Tambaram, Madipakkam, Velachery, Manapakkam, Perungudi, Mugalivakkkam, and other places are fully flooded.

With serious steps taken by the government and sunshine amidst heavy showers, water in these areas has started draining, getting back to normal situations.

This being the case, the low pressure in Bay of Bengal along Sri Lanka has given rise to heavy showers in Chennai yet again. Meteorological department officials alerted the city on 22nd November. As per their precise report, Chennai received heavy showers yesterday.

There was heavy rain shower during the night of day before yesterday. With this, heavy showers were expected yesterday. The city had a cloudy weather all through the morning hours. During the noon, there was good amount of sunshine. It was in fact too hot during noon time, around 2.30 pm. People, especially housewives assumed that it will not rain and got their clothes washed.

Well, it was then that the nature started playing its game and the weather turned upside-down. There was no sunray at all, and the entire city was seen cloudy. In a few minutes, there was heavy downpour followed by rain with heavy blow of wind.

Housewives who confidently dried clothes at their home, people who headed to office without raincoat or umbrella, and all others were badly affected and fell into the trap of rain.

Around 4 pm, the city was seen fully dark. This forced all drivers of two and four wheelers use headlight in their vehicle. They also found it arduous to drive in the water stagnant city roads.

As there was heavy wind blow, there was no use of carrying umbrella and they had to get drained in rain too. All train tracks were water logged due to which electric train and express train services were functioned at slow pace.

Due to severe downpour, most places in Chennai are seen water logged. Places like Mogappair, Velachery, Madipakkam, Tambaram, Madhavaram, and Villivakkam that had slowly started getting the water drained are again turning water logged. This has largely distressed residents of these localities.

Corporation workers who are involved in clearing the water stagnation are disappointed too.

In places including Manapakam, Moulivakkam, Nerkundram and Mugalivakkam, the water stagnation caused by earlier rain showers have not drained yet. Worsening the situation is this rain shower that has further surged the water level in these stagnant area.

Canals along Krishnagiri are broken by people in the locality. The water flowing out from here is flowing alone Radha Avenue, and Rukmani Nagar and reaching Nerkundram areas. This has made the locality completely flooded.

Sewage water gets mixed with the rainwater in these stagnant areas s and houses. This gives out foul smell and surges the likeliness of diseases.
