As a move to prevent the electricity junction boxes from getting submerged during times of heavy showers, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has proposed plans to increase height of these boxes across the city. With this, it will be possible to restore electricity supply without any disruption even when the city is flooded.
Whenever there is heavy shower, we experience power cut! This is because the staff members at the electricity board are bound to disrupt power supply so as to prevent electrocution. Speaking about this, one of the TANGEDCO official says they find it tough to continue supplying power during times of heavy showers, particularly in areas that are water logged.
They follow a uniform design sketch, say officials. Two concrete pillars will be used to fit the junction boxes at a height of about three feet from the ground. This design map is shared with all lower level officials. Enough funds is sanctioned to begin with the work.
Areas including Velachery, Madipakkam, Sholinganallur, Thoraipakkam, Mudichur, Manimangalam, Tambaram, to name a few are identified to implement this new design. The list of all pillar boxes that require raising height need to be submitted by the electricity staff.
