India`s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama have scheduled meetings on the sidelines of the conference for climate change to be held in Paris next week. An official announcement to the effect was made from the White House on Tuesday. Mr. Modi has already scheduled two other bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and France`s Premier Francois Hollande. China is the world`s worst polluter.
Speaking at a press conference, officials from the US government said, We have been engaging with Indian through the year in determining how they can contribute constructively to a successful outcome in Paris... The purpose of these meetings (is) to make sure that the leaders are on the same page about our objectives and strategy going into these final two weeks of negotiations... These two countries (India and China) are two of US’s most important partners in dealing with global climate change. The president has built an important partnership with President Xi and has worked closely with Prime Minister Modi.
