The heavy showers in the city did not just affect the bus transportation, but the Chennai Metro rail work as well.

Few underground stretches from Thirumangalam to Egmore Rail Station and those from Chennai central to Saidapet metro got waterlogged, say workers with the department. In a few places, tunnels got inundated and in others, the stations were so.

One of the workers here said it takes enough time to pump out water as there has been heavy showers flooding the city.

Dewatering mechanism is being implemented at all the stations for pumping out water, say Chennai Metro Rail Limited officials. For example, there was lot of water to be drained at the Chennai Central station. Further, they are backing the works to drain water using pumps in various other areas of the city that are waterlogged.

They added that these problems will not arise if the stations are commissioned properly. In a few sites, there is a delay in carrying out the work, say workers; however, CMRL officials say there is no such delay at all.

Workers add that parts of underground stretch along Thirumangalam to Egmore metro station and Chennai central to Saidapet metro were completely waterlogged.
