Govt to start distributing textbooks from next week in flood-hit areas

Originating next week, without more spells of rain, the state government will begin distributing textbooks to students who lost them in the flood. 

Director of School Education S Kannappan said six lorry-loads of textbooks were ready to be paid out. Once school sessions resume, we shall start distributing them to government and government aided schools across flood affected districts of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Tiruvallur, he said. 

The director said, the textbooks were from the available stock in the department. So far, 46,000 books have been distributed in the districts after 10,700 notebooks and 7,000-odd uniforms were given out in Cuddalore, he said. Moreover, education officers will also put in a request to the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation (TNTESC), he added. 

TNTESC officials said the corporation godowns were well stocked and could meet the demand. They said, We had already stocked it even before the second spell of rain. The books cannot be distributed individually to students but we are ready to supply it to the education department if they request it.
