247 ration shops were affected due to the recent rains in Chennai. Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju said that 28 temporary ration shops has been set up.
Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju yesterday inspected Chennai Anna Nagar Pannai Pasumai Nugarvor Kootturavu Kadai and ratio shops which come under the control of Chintamani Cooperative Stores.
Minister for Cooperation Sellur K. Raju while speaking said, In order to control the prices of vegetables 42 Pannai Pasumai Nugarvor Kootturavu Kadai including 2 mobile shops were started. There was heavy shortage of vegetables during the month of November due to rains. Because of this 50 additional shops were started. There was again short supply of vegetables during last week rains. Because of this vegetables were sold in 32 places using 11 mobile shops. Moreover 100 tonnes potatoes and 75 tonnes onions were procured and sold in subsidized prices in 536 co-operative stores. One crore 21 lakhs 42 thousand 40 kilos of vegetables were sold for Rs 35 Crores 24 Lakhs through Pannai Pasumai Nugarvor Kootturavu Kadai. 274 ration shops in Chennai have been affected due to rains. 29 ration shops were severely damaged. For the ration holders of these shops, essential commodities were supplied through 8 mobile units. Rain affected 219 shops have now been fully restored and commodities are being sold. For the balance 28 shops, temporary shops have been set up. Essential commodities are being supplied in 1273 ration shops in Chennai.
