Below are the steps you will have to take when you incur an unfortunate loss covered in the policy.
- Get in touch with the policy issuing office of the insurance company once the accident takes place. If the accident takes place in a city other than the location of policy issuing office, contact the office that lies nearest to you so that a survey can be arranged. The official website of the insurance company will have all contact details such as address, phone number, etc.
- If the vehicle undergoes a major accident like fire or riot loss, keep the vehicle as it is until the surveyor arrives at the spot to conduct a survey. He will inspect and analyze the place of accident. It is also to be noted that surveying is mandatory for all accident cases of commercial vehicles. Hence, it is always recommended to have the contact details of insurance company handy
- In unfortunate cases, if there is any third party injury or death, you need to inform the police station at once. Complete details of damage, injury, death or damage caused to the third party should be informed. If the third party is admitted anywhere for treatment, the hospital details, doctor`s name, etc should be provided
- On completing the above formalities, the vehicle needs to be moved or towed to the authorized workshop. This may be of your own choices. Here, an estimate needs to be obtained and this should be then submitted to the insurance company along with the claim form. The surveyor copy may also have to be submitted to the police station. If it is a case of TP injury, FIR is mandatory and it should also be submitted at the insurance company
- You should also ensure that the repair works are not commenced until final surveyor verifies damage and gives his nod to do so
- Once the repair is over for partial loss claims, the cash bills for spare parts and labors need to be submitted for obtaining reimbursement.
