Below are the steps to take for claiming your fire and engineering insurance:
  • Inform the concerned insurance company immediately after the incident takes place. This can be done either over phone or given in writing along with the policy number
  • Get the claim form from the office and fill it up with the required details and submit it at the office
  • If the damage caused is severe, you need to inform the insurance company immediately for them to send a surveyor. He will assist in reducing the loss and provide settlement at the earliest. For getting first hand information, the officer may also visit the accident spot
  • Documentary evidences may be required for you to prove your claim to the surveyor and at the office. Photocopies of the needed documents may be submitted at the office
  • The surveyors and insurance officials will head to the spot to examine the loss and its cause. They will make an estimate of the loss incurred and process for quick settlement for the same. They should be given the needed facilities to capture images and loss and obtain statements of witness
  • The fire station should also be informed about the incident, police officials or civil authorities depending on the local practice. Report copies need to be submitted and handed over to surveyor office
  • Further copies such as the license, permits, certificates, etc may also have to be submitted to the surveyor. These are required for ensuring that the insurance claim procedures are done as per law and required safety standards
  • You may ask for a copy of the survey report for future reference
