The Supreme Court has ordered the Central Food technological Research Institute to test samples of Maggi noddles. The lab at the Institute is located in Mysuru.
The Bench comprising of Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Prafulla C. Pant said that the samples were to be collected from Nestle India`s warehouse in Lucknow. The court order was a result of counsel Harish Salve`s plea on behalf of Nestle India. The counsel said that there was no necessity or warrant to issue a further direction for testing samples at a lab in Chennai. The NCRDC (National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission) had issued an order directing sample testing by the Chennai lab.
Mr. Salve contended that the lab in Chennai was not fully equipped to carry out all the tests ordered by the NCDRC.
