Because of the recent floods, the celebrations have become very dull. Star hotels have announced that their usual New Year bash will not be there this year. Though there wouldn`t be many celebrations, youths have decided to celebrate New Year in a great way. Temples will be kept open on the midnight of New Year`s Day.

In order to welcome the New Year, youngsters will rise in the celebrations. Because they use cars, motorcycles and bicycles there are chances of accidents.

Police Commissioner T K Rajendran  has mentioned to follow the usual methods followed every year. Around 15,000 police personnel will be pressed into service to patrol all night. Thousand police personnel have been deployed in Marina Beach alone. Usually the youths use to cut the New Year cake near Gandhi Statue. It is doubtful whether this will take place this year.

On the New Year day night all the traffic signals will be working. Traffic police and law and order police will be patrolling and also check the vehicles. Only two people will be permitted in the motorbikes.

There will be 400 police patrol jeeps on all the important roads in Chennai. Precautionary measures are being taken to avoid chain snatching and snatching of bags etc.

Though there will no New Year celebrations in the five star hotels, there will be celebrations in the farm houses located in ECR. Police permission has been sought for. There are various strict restrictions imposed by the police with regard to liquor.

During the last year New Year`s celebrations, one person drowned in the farm house swimming pool because he was fully drunk. Hence the police have instructed to cover the swimming pool were parties will be held. On the whole there will be heavy police protection during the New Year Celebrations.
