In an unprecedented record for sales, 20 lakh cars have been sold for the first time in our country in a single calendar year. As compared to the sales in 2014, the growth in sales for the year 2015 is 10 percent.
2034015 vehicles were sold during the year 2015. 1852545 vehicles were sold during the year 2014. Previously, 1998703 cars sold during the year 2012 stood as a record.
Last year saw good growth in the people transport such as car, van, bus, and heavy duty vehicles.
In contrast, the growth of sales of LCV (Light Commercial Vehicles), 2-wheelers, and 3-wheelers was less.
Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association has explained that the rising income of the people and introduction of new models contributed to this growth. Another factor was the reduction in interest decided by Reserve Bank of India which enabled more sales of people transport segment.
The sales of heavy duty vehicles went up by 31.39 percent and 237952 vehicles were sold. During the year 2014, 181105 heavy duty vehicles were sold.
Sales of buses in 2015 were 42436 as compared to 34259 in 2014.
Sales of automatic scooter went up by 12.9 percent selling 4880117 numbers as compared to 4320925 during 2014.
As the demand in rural area was down, the sales of 2-wheelers went down by 3.42 percent: 10523909 2-wheelers were sold in 2016 as compared to 10996687 in 2014.
