A record breaking blizzard hit the US`s East Coast paralysing  New York and the country`s capital Washington D.C. 19 deaths were reported across several states.

The snow storm has been ranked No. 3 in snowfall accumulation. Last recorded levels were 25.1 inches or 63.7 cms. According to officials, Thirteen people were killed in weather-related car crashes in Arkansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia. One person died in Maryland and three in New York City while shovelling snow. Two died of hypothermia in Virginia.’

Because it is the weekend, the financial loss to New York`s financial services industry has been seen as minimal. However, that would depend on the intensity of the storm on Sunday, and if offices will be open on Monday.

The Mayor of Washington said, The forecasts suggest that the snow will wrap up late tonight or in the very early hours of the morning. But it doesn`t make it any less dangerous. We expect continued high winds throughout the area which will continue to make the conditions and visibility very poor.

According to airline industry experts, More than 5,100 flights were canceled on Saturday and over 3,300 more on Sunday.
