In order to bring down the burden of bearing the expenses on subsidies, the central government has decided to cancel the subsidy facility to the richer class of the society.
Earlier, the central government started a campaign Give up your subsidy. The government stressed that this would help more women living Below Poverty Line to get LPG gas connections.
Many persons accepted this and gave up their subsidies for gas cylinders.
Meanwhile, the central government had already announced its decision to withdraw LPG gas cylinder subsidy to individuals/families with more than Rs. 10 Lakhs annual income.
This has been implemented now. So, persons with more than Rs, 10 Lakh annual income will not get subsidy on LPG cooking gas cylinders.
A list is being prepared from the data on Tax payers and sms is sent to them.
The people with less than Rs. 10 Lakh annual income will have to inform the details to the LPG gas dealer.
Joint Secretary of the ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr. Ashutosh Jindal, informed that sms is being sent to all tax payers requesting them regarding stoppage of LPG gas subsidy if the annual income exceeds Rs. 10 Lakhs. The ministry decided no to wait for the people to come forward by themselves to voluntarily disclose details.
So, if it is found that the annual income of a gas consumer exceeds Rs. 10 Lakhs, the subsidy for the LPG cooking gas cylinders booked henceforth will be cancelled.
Presently, LPG cooking gas cylinder weighing 14.2 kg is sold with subsidy at 12 cylinders per year.
With the campaign by the central government, 85.24 Lakh individuals have given up this subsidy on LPG gas cylinders.
