Earth Hour was observed for the first time in the city of Sydney, Australia in the year 2007.From the next year, 2008, all the other countries of the world joined in the observation of Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is observed every year on the last Saturday in the month of March promoted by UN and World Forest Fund. By observing Earth Hour, awareness is created regarding Energy Savings and climate changes.
What else to be done to protect Mother Earth?
Trees can be planted in public spaces.Gadgets and devices which operate on solar energy can be used.We have note that every second when we use our cell phones, organic gases are being released. So, try to reduce the time of cell-phone usage.
What is to be done today?
Ensure that usage of electricity is cut off by switching off all electric gadgets and also avoid using cell-phones between 8.30 PM & 9.30 PM.
However, there is another important issue - India-Pakistan T20 match is scheduled today. So, keep that in mind and decide whether global warming is the more important issue than watching cricket.
Those who insist that cricket match must be seen can assemble together at a particular place and watch TV (This will prevent many TVs from being switched on).
Celebrities from films and sports have campaigned for observing Earth Hout through popular social networking media.
