79, 87,112 opens savings account under Jan Dhan Yojana scheme in Tamil Nadu

As on 31st March, 79,87,112 people have opened savings account under prime minster`s  Jan Dhan Yojana scheme in Tamil Nadu. So far people have deposited Rs 991 Crores. Village people are attracted towards the scheme than the city people. 

Jan Dhan Yojana scheme was launched by Prime Minster Narendra Modi on 28th August 2014 throughout the country. Jan Dhan Yojana accounts are being opened with Zero balance. Under this scheme there is accidental insurance cover of Rs.1.00 lakh. After 6 months the banks will issue  overdraft facility up to Rs.5000. 

One of the public sector bank officials while speaking said: This scheme was introduced to save the poor people from loan sharks and pawn brokers. The Central Government has set aside Rs 70 thousand Crores for this scheme. When a savings account is opened under this scheme, the customers will be given a pass book and RuPay debit card. After 6 months overdraft facility of a maximum of Rs 5,000 would be sanctioned for a period of  three years and would be subject to an annual review. There is a good response for this scheme in Tamil Nadu.”
