Tomorrow (23rd April) Bank Holiday - No filing of election candidates

Indian Election Commission has announced that candidates for elections cannot register their candidature on bank holidays.

The registration of contestants commences today (Friday, 22nd April) in Tamil Nadu. In this condition, a situation has arisen where candidates cannot register tomorrow (Saturday, 23rd April).

The election is scheduled to be conducted on 16th May in Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Puducherry. Registration of candidates commenced today (22nd April).
 
The Kerala Chief Election Officer had written a letter to the Election Commission regarding registration of candidates on 2nd and 4th Saturdays which are bank holidays.
The Election Commission has clearly replied that registration should not be done on bank holidays. This would be applicable to Tamil Nadu & Puducherry as well.

So, Rajesh Lakhoni, Chief Election Officer in Tamil Nadu, informed that registration of candidates will not be carried out on 2nd and 4th Saturdays.
