Filing of nomination papers from today

Filing of nomination papers will commence from today. Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections are to be held on 16th May. Chief Election Commissioner Rajesh Lakhani has mentioned that all arrangements to file the nominations have been made. He has also mentioned the following:
 
  1. One proposer is enough for candidates of a recognized national or state party. However, if the candidate belongs to a registered unrecognized organization or is an independent candidate, ten proposers or electors of the constituency are needed to sign the nomination paper.
  2. Each candidate should pay Rs. 10,000 as deposit for contesting the election, and SC/ST candidates should pay Rs. 5,000 as deposit.
  3. When other political parties complaint that there are fake voters in the electoral list, PMK did not make any complaint. At a time when the list has been  finalized, the PMK has now made a complaint. If there is name of a false voter is in the list, his name will be placed in the list of change of address or died list. If there is any objection about this, the political parties can make a complaint.
  4. Those who are in change of address list or deceased list can vote by showing the electoral identity card along with an additional document.
  5. All the instruments and other stationary related to the elections will be supplied by the district electoral offices.
  6. Government officials and teachers should participate in the election works. They should also undergo three trainings.
  7. There will be one public observer and 32 police observers for two constituencies. They will be arriving in Tamil Nadu on 29th April. One expenditure observer will be nominated for each constituency. They will arrive soon.
  8. filing of nominations would begin on April 22 and conclude on April 29. Nominations could be filed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on all days, except Sunday. The date of scrutiny of nomination is April 30 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 2. The final list of contesting candidates will be released the same evening. Symbols too will be allotted.
  9. Candidates should file a comprehensive affidavit detailing assets, their educational qualification, criminal background, bank account details along with a stamp-sized photograph.
  10. Four people can accompany the candidates. The candidates details will be released immediately in the election commission website. In the next 24 hours, the candidates nomination form will be uploaded in the website. Bank accounts details also should be disclosed.
  11. Nomination paper should be in prescribed from. The form of nomination paper is prescribed under Rule-4 of the conduct of election Rules. Consequently Form 2A is prescribed as nomination paper
