The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered to Jayalalitha government to issue the Samacheer kalvi books to 1 to 10 classes with in August 2nd without fail.
The court also refused to stay the Madras high court`s order on Samacheer Kalvi implementation and decided to hear the matter on July 26.
A three-judge bench, comprising Justices J M Panchal, Deepak Verma and B S Chauhan, also asked the state government to distribute over 9 crore textbooks, printed as per the course curriculum, approved by the previous government.
It, however, allowed the government to distribute the books by August 2, instead of July 22 fixed by the HC.
The apex court passed the direction while rejecting the arguments of senior counsel P P Rao, who, appearing for the state, said that the judgment ought to be stayed as the distribution of 9 crore-odd textbooks was not advisable.
Rao`s arguments, however , failed to convince the court, which refused to stay the judgment, but assured him that it would hear the matter at length since it involved the future of 1.2 croreodd students.
