Jamun (naval palam) season has begun. The merchants have mentioned that the rates of these fruits are high because of short supply. This fleshy black colour fruit is mouth watering. The season of the fruit will commence during the month of June and will be available up to September. The sales of the fruits are going on in top gear. The fruits are brought from Andhra and Karnataka to Chennai. The fruit which has medicinal quality is sold in the streets, pavements and push carts. People are buying this with great interest.
These jamun fruits are brought from Cuddapah, Nellore and Naidupettai in Andhra and from Shimoga, Hubli and Haasan in Karnataka to Chennai Koyambedu Market for sales. Now there is short supply of these fruits. Now these fruits are being sold between Rs 180 and Rs 200 per kilo as per the quality. Majority of people are buying only 100 or 200 gms of this fruit.
This jamun fruit which is being grown in Tamil Nadu will have big seed but the fruits brought from Bangalore and Andhra will be very fleshy. Hence there is great demand for this fruit. The merchants have mentioned that the prices of the fruits will come down once the supply increases.
