In the world-famous temple of Tirupathi, around 450 festival are celebrated every year.
When special continuous‘abhishekham’ are performed on the deities of Goddesses Sridevi and Bhoodev, in order to prevent any harm to the deity of Lord Srinivasa, golden armour will be adorned and special homams are performed. This is called Jeshtabhishekham.
Jeshtabhishekha’ this year is set to start today (Friday, 17th June).The festival will be celebrated for 3 days. During the festival, the deity of Lord Srinivasa will be adorned with different armoury and will be taken in procession.
At the start of the festival, a special Kolu will be set up in the Sampangi Mandapam located in the temple. The holy water will be poured from 100 Kalasams (holy pots) and yagam will be performed.
The sacred water in the kalasam will be used to perform Abhishekham on the deity of the Lord Srinivasa. After this, Sahasra Deepa Alankara Sevai will be performed. On the first day, the deity of the Lord Srinivasa, adorned with precious diamonds, will be taken along the 4 corridor streets of the temple.
On the second day, the deity of the Lord Srinivasa will be adorned with armour made of pearls. On the 3rd day, the deity of the Lord Srinivasa will be adorned with an armour of gold. The deity will be taken in procession to offer Darshan to the devotees.
On the special occasion for the 3 days of Jeshtabhishekham, the regular events like Midhapadha Darsanam, Kalayana Utsavam, Oojnal Sevai, Arjitha Brahmotsavam, and Vasantha Utsavam stand cancelled.
