The Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation is located inside the Department of Public Instruction, Nungambakkam. This has now rolled out textbooks for class 1 to 12.
This has been issuing textbooks for college syllabus between years 1970 and 1980. All of these books were printed in Tamil. As a move to promote Tamil language, these textbooks were made available online. If done so, anyone from any corner of the world will be able to access these Tamil textbooks through internet. In about 900 topics, these textbooks are now ready to get published online.
This list of 900 set to be made available on the web is inclusive of Mathematics, Science, Chemistry, History, Zoology, Botany; and medical and engineering textbooks. This also includes Astronomy and History textbooks written by Neelaganda Sasthri, the retired professor of Madras University.
All these textbooks belong to the Tamil Nadu textbook Corporation. The other books were sourced from Connemara Public Library, University textbooks, College libraries, etc. All these textbooks are available in Tamil. Digitalization of these textbooks has got completed. However, there are minor issues in making them available on the web. These are to be rectified and made available online. Following this, there are plans to make them available on mobile as well.
In this regard, sources from the Tamil Nadu textbook and education association state that civil and mechanical subjects of Anna University are now available in Tamil. There are books about engineering studies. And hence there is not any issue with this. There are separate rules for stenograph. All these textbooks are the ones currently in use. If these books receive huge reception, the Tamil Nadu textbook and education association may take steps to release them, according to sources.
