Police patrol throughout the night in Chennai Metro City

With the recent gruesome murder of the Techie woman Swathi in Nungambakkam Railway Station, the police undertook a strong vigilance action by night patrol on Saturday to curb the movement of all rowdies and other anti-social elements.

The patrol was conducted under the leadership of the City Police Commissioner T K Rajendran from 11.00 PM till early morning 5.00 AM.

The police informed that 161 rowdies have been arrested and imprisoned.

The patrol was undertaken in 73 places in the city, including Koyambedu, Arumbakkam, Kilpauk, Royapuram, Kasimedu, Thiruvotriyur, Vyasarpadi, pulianthope, Perambur, and Ambattur.

Special training and suggestions were given to the police regarding various issues like preventing theft, attending emergency calls, catching and inquiring suspicious persons in bus stops, administering first aid to persons involved in accidents, etc.

With just the one night patrol conducted on Saturday night, 468 suspicious persons, 23 rowdies, and 3 criminals in hiding, and 77 persons involved in drunken driving were arrested.
