National Award for Chennai Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital Blood Bank

A national award has been given on behalf of the National Aids Control Organisation to the blood bank functioning in Chennai Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai for the best performance during the year 2015.

The Head of the Department of the Hospital`s Blood Transfusion, Dr. Subash, informed that only one blood bank was selected among the 214 blood banks in Tamil Nadu.

Dr. S. Subash explained that during the year 2015, the blood bank of the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital conducted 305 blood donation camps and collected 40000 units of blood.

A mobile blood bank vehicle was available with a capacity of 6 beds served for this purpose.

So, there is no compulsion for bringing blood donors in this blood bank.

This blood bank also donated 3000 units of blood to the nearby hospitals.

The red and white corpuscles of the donated blood were separated and used for 3 patients. The government hospital requires blood for 350 patients every day.So, 200 individuals are required to donate blood.

Dr. Subash told that males can donate blood once in 3 months and females can donate blood once in 4 months
