Banks have been repeatedly advising several precautionary measures regarding the usage of ATMs.
Police have given the following precautions while using ATMs:
Do not wear helmet when you are entering in to the ATM cabin because of camera surveillance.
When you type your PIN number at an ATM, make sure that you sufficiently obscure the keypad from being viewed by an onlooker.
Some may eye on you while withdrawing cash from banks or ATMs. Collect the cash and count it as unobtrusively as possible. Keep the cash in its place before coming out of the ATM booth.
When coming out of the banks check if anyone is following you. Police can be contacted if there is any doubt.
If you find anyone suspicious outside the bank or ATM kindly contact the concerned police.
When you have withdrawn money, some stranger may try to divert your attention by saying there is some dirt in your dress. This is done to nab your money. Be careful and cautious.
Avoid using ATMs in un-crowded places especially late night
