CCTV installation under full swing in Chennai railway stations

After the gruesome murder of the Infosys software techie Swathi in Nungambakkam Railway Station, the activities to increase the safety in railway station have been taken up on a war-footing.

As per the guidelines of the Chennai High Court, the state government and the Railway administration are progressing in full swing in the installation of CCTVs in the Chennai city Railway Station.

In the 1st phase, the CCTV installation in 136 railway stations of Southern Railway is progressing. Out of this 136, 82 railway stations are in Chennai Division. So, CCTVs will be installed in all the suburban railway stations. CCTVs will be installed in additional 96 railway stations. Out of this, 43 stations are in Chennai Division.

Railway Protection Force has planned to set up a squad of 140 women to be called Women Safety Force. Another company to be formed will join temporarily in this activity.

Southern Railway Protection Force Chief Monitoring Commissioner informed that the Railway Protection Force is monitoring in 3 railway stations for  periods of 1 hour on a rotation basis.
