The Postal Department has mentioned that the Ganges water sold in post offices should be used only for religious purposes.

At present, Gangajal, which comes in 200 ml and 500 ml packs, is being sold at Chennai GPO and Anna Road head post office.

The product has become an instant hit in the State with the first stock received in Chennai sold out in a day.

Some of the organizations protested that the Ganges water is polluted and not fit for drinking. In view of this an official of the Postal department has mentioned: There is good sales of Ganges water in the post office. Very soon we will be expanding the sales of Ganges water to other post offices. Two varieties of Gangajal - one bottled in Gangotri and the other one in Rishikesh is being sold. This is holy water. At the same it has been mentioned in the bottle that this water is not fit for drinking. Hence we request people not to drink this water.
