Increase in vacant seats in engineering counselling

Posted on: 20/Jul/2016 3:27:19 PM
Engineering candidates are being appointed in engineering colleges for studies like B.E., B.Tech, B.Arch, etc. Out of 523 engineering colleges, there are 2.8 lakh vacancies. AICTE is now conducting counselling to admit students in these engineering colleges. Out of the total seats available, 1.92 lakh seats will be allotted to admit students via counselling. Accordingly, counselling for sports category took place on 23rd, for the physically challenged, the counselling took place on 24th, and the general counselling had begun on 27th. The counseling is set to get over by tomorrow.

At this juncture, it is likely that the total number of empty engineering seats will be more than a lakh. This is because in more than 200 colleges, nearly 50 percent of total number of approximate seats of 77,000 is unfilled still. Students have started opting for seats with other deemed universities for their attractive announcements.

Schemes to waive off bus charge for students, offer on hostel fee, no need for donation, free Wi-Fi, internship in workshops, reduction in exam fees when a student passes all exam without arrear, etc. are some of the attractive offers they make. A few such universities source mobile numbers from mobile phone companies and share the details of their discounts through this. They also promote student admission through Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Speaking about this, the higher officials state that this scheme will be available only for the first year. In the consecutive years, they may charge higher.
