As per the project report of the Chennai Metro rail for the second phase, the works will be executed at a cost of Rs 45 thousands Crores. The phase 2 of the project covers a distance of 114 kms. The three corridors include Madhavaram to Siruseri (41km), Nerkundram to Light House (14km) and Madhavaram to Perumbakkam (33km).
An official of the Chennai Metro Rail while speaking about the project said: We have done lots of evaluation and research for the three corridors which include Madhavaram to Siruseri (41km), Nerkundram to Light House (14km) and Madhavaram to Perumbakkam (33km). A team consisting of 15 members from the Metro Rail and Railway Technical And Economics Services conducted the survey. We have also explored at both elevated and underground options for undertaking the work. We have selected the places and have also depicted this in the map. We have decided to use more elevated path than underground paths. The cost of project has been estimated at Rs 45,000 Crores. In the next 2 months we will submit the detailed project report and gets its approval. After this, the DPR will be sent to Central Government for approval and concurrence.
