The Collegium, comprising of a committee headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, has given the 1st phase approval for the appointment of 24 new judges in Chennai High Court.
The Chennai High Court had submitted a list of recommendations for the appointment of new judges during February. The list consisted of 19 advocates and 11 district judges.
The Collegium headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has selected 24 out of this 30 recommendations and granted the 1st phase approval.

District judges:
R M T Teekaraman, N Satishkumar, N Seshasayee, T Ravindran, S Bhaskaran, P Velmurugan, G Jayachandran, C V Karthikeyan, and Bashir Ahmed
Currently, there are only 38 judges in Chennai High Court. After this appointment, the strength would increase to 62 judges. Still, there would be 13 vacant posts.
