A ‘test-run’ will be conducted on the software from October. The Chief secretary of the GST Coordination Council, Mr. Prakash Kumar, informed that an exclusive website for GST would be developed by February. It may be noted that Mr. Prakash Kumar was earlier working in the famous Microsoft.
The central government considers the GST and implementation of software as a non-profit system.
Mr. Kumar informed that a select committee of tax experts will decide the operation procedure of GST.
The cost of the GST implementation software is Rs. 1380 Crores. The software has been designed such that 65 Lakh to 70 Lakh individuals can file their tax details. The software has been developed by Infosys.
Mr. Prakash Kumar explained that the software would be simple to operate and would help as a ‘paperless’ system of working.
He mentioned that GSTN has been discussing with SAP, Clear Tax, and Tally regarding the facility for filing taxes through their websites.
The new software would guide the customers paying VAT, Production Tax, and Service Tax. It would make a fresh entry of all data pertaining to the taxpayer.
A 15-digit code will be provided for filing GST. GSTN has gathered data through the Tax Departments that there are 58 Lakhs industries.
The software will have a ‘Help Desk’ facility to guide the customers who have to register and file their tax details.
There will be some exclusive facilities in the software for the Tax Officers. This would facilitate the checking of the proper payment of taxes.
