Zonal engineers of Chennai Corporation can grant permission for ordinary residential buildings

Zonal engineers of Greater Chennai Corporation can now grant permission for ordinary residential buildings up to six homes.
Till 2013, the zonal engineers of all the 15 zones were issuing the planning permissions. This had benefitted individuals and also helped small-time builders to save time and simplify procedures.
After that, the power was vested with the Regional Deputy Commissioners, following a request from the Corporation.
Corporation had again requested the government to revise delegation of powers for plan approval. The State government has reverted back to the practice of making zonal engineers of Greater Chennai Corporation to issue planning permission for ordinary residential buildings.
