It is being considered to launch a digital teacher training centre at Chennai for law school teachers. This will be first of its kind in South India.

A proposal to begin a digital teaching college at Dr Ambedkar Law University has been sent to UGC. Dr Ambedkar Government Law College was started in the year 1891 in Chennai and later on the college was started in the year 1974 in Madurai. The Government Law College was started in Trichy and Coimbatore in the year 1979. The law colleges in Nellai, Chengalpet and Vellore were started in the years 1996, 2006 and 2008 respectively. Every year 9366 students have become lawyers through these 7 colleges.

All the 7 colleges are functioning under Dr Ambedkar Law University. This is the first Law University established in the South Asian countries. Moreover Dr Ambedkar Law University has a School of Excellence in Law wherein courses such as BA-LLB Hons, B COM-LLB, BBA-LLB and BCA LLB and 3 years LLB are being offered. 780 students are admitted in these courses. More than 10,000 students are studying law. Moreover 145 are doing PhDs. in the university.

Though there are large numbers students pursuing law courses there are only 300 professors to teach. In order to compensate this dearth many colleges use the experienced advocates to teach the law course in their part time.

Now in order to enhance the quality of the law colleges, the university has to deploy versatile teachers who are well versed with the present day syllabus. In view of this, it has been decided to train the law teachers in a powerful digital training centre at the Perungudi University campus. Hence a proposal has been sent to UGC for opening the digital centre.
