Potable drinking water provided at Maraimalainagar

The municipality of Maraimalainagar will be providing potable drinking water to its residents. There are 21 wards in the municipality of Maraimalainagar. More than 1 lakhs people are residing here. There are more than 250 private factories, private universities and colleges. There are also large number of flats, schools and commercial complexes.
 
Municipality of Maraimalainagar  which was functioning as third stage municipality has been elevated as special municipality in the year 2010. Keeping in mind the increasing population in Maraimalainagar, RO plants were set up in various places at a cost of Rs 10.5 Crores.
 
Municipal chairman MGK Gopikannan said: All 18,000 families can fetch water from the 139 purification stations. The civic body intended to set up 40 more purification stations in the municipality. The municipality is taking care of people’s basic needs such as Purified water, sewage and quality roads. There was no water shortage in Maraimalainagar as an additional 30 common wells had been sunk and thrown open for use by the public. More than 15 lakes had been desilted, cleaned, and kept ready for rain water harvesting.
