Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday, announced extending the East Coast Road from Tuticorin to Kanyakumari, a distance of 113 km at a cost of Rs 257 crore.
In a Suo Motu statement, CM informed the assembly that the East Coast Road will be extended to the road stretch between Tuticorin and Anjugramam in Kanyakumari district. The extension will have nine bypass roads, three major bridges and one railway over bridges, she said.
She also announced laying of bypass roads near Sivaganga and near Edappadi, a distance of 10.60 km and 8.60 km to decongest the flow of traffic through these towns.
The government will build 23 railway bridges at a cost of rs 740 crore in nine districts. Government will share the costs with the Railways. Also announced, that the government will build 65 bridges in 18 districts at a cost of Rs 151 crore with funding from NABARD
